Owls are often used as a representation of knowledge and wisdom and in relation to the question, a verse that I read not so long ago came to mind:
"
A wise old owl lived in an oakThe more he saw the less he spokeThe less he spoke the more he heard.Why can't we all be like that wise old bird?"
I would say that the owls are good observers and know more about the night world than us diurnal beings and probably more about the starry sky than any other avian (or maybe some other nocturnal species do? - but I'll still go with that). And I would guess that during the day they yearn for the calmness brought by the night and the suspense of hunting its prey skilfully and in secrecy.
